Every process in our bodies is connected to our gut flora (microbiome or microorganism). The coined phrase “gut-brain axis” means, in layman’s, the microbiomes tell the brain what to do and our brain controls our whole body.
Bacteria are considered the oldest living form in the history of the World, yet here we are in the 21st century and studies in the human microbiome have been hailed as the new frontier of medicine.
I shall be holding a Fermentation Workshop; delving into the art of fermentation, equipping you with simple practical skills to ferment at home, giving you the lifestyle skills you need to apply daily.
We will look at and learn how to make various milk ferments such as cheese, yoghurt, kefir, clabber. We shall be making a cheesecake from the cheese made to eat in the afternoon!
We shall discover how to use all our surplus vegetables the ancient way, preserving and enriching them by making sauerkraut.
I shall explain how we as westerners have moved away from such things as the circadian rhythm (our internal, biochemical, physiological, and behavioural processes). Every living thing, from fungus to bacteria to plant to animal, has a circadian rhythm.
Supermarkets have disturbed our instinct for seasonal foods and this plays a huge roll in lack of diverse microbiome within us, so we shall address prebiotic foods and their importance.
Consequently, our bodies are deprived of essential nutrients, which causes imbalances in our organism. Imbalances create irrational cravings and uncontrolled eating habits, weaken our immune system, reduce our metabolism, affect our emotional condition and ‘happy’ state, and increase our risk of chronic disease.
I shall be speaking on the control of what genes will be activated, what genes will be put to sleep forever, and that what turns your genes on and off depends on you. Taking responsibility is an option!
We will sit down to a nutrient dense, organic lunch with a demonstration of how it is made.
This will be a hands-on, informative and exciting day and I look forward to the adventure with you
